Japanese subsidiary Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) on Tuesday said it had begun assembly of its flagship motorcycle — Hayabusa — at its plant in Gurgaon, Haryana.

Assembling of the bike would bring down its price to ₹13,57,135 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the company said.

The earlier completely built up (CBU) version of the bike was priced around ₹15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Hayabusa will be imported as completely knocked down (CKD) kits and assembled at the hi-tech assembly line in Gurgaon.

Nonetheless, the specifications of the motorcycle will remain unchanged as compared to its CBU counterpart, which has been imported from Japan all these years, the company added.

“India is one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles in the world. This is a clear indication of the high demand in this ever-growing market. Along with growth, comes maturity,” said Kenji Hirozawa, Vice-President-Sales and Marketing.

“We firmly believe in the ‘Make in India’ programme and this is another step to show our support even in the big bike market,” he added.
