To solve the problem of high demand for food in areas where there are few restaurants, Swiggy has launched a new initiative, Swiggy Access. It aims to bring food closer to consumers and enable easier expansion for the firm’s restaurant partners.

The first Swiggy Access kitchen spanning 3,200 sqft in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli area will serve signature dishes from Leon Grill, Keventers and Punjabi Rasoi and Swiggy’s private brands — The Bowl Company and House of Dabbas — to consumers in the neighbourhood. Set up at an investment of ₹25 lakh, the ready-to-occupy kitchen spaces are given to select restaurant partners where the only expense partners incur will be to equip the kitchen and run it as a delivery-only branch. No rent or deposit will be charged by Swiggy for the premises.

“Consumer insights we have gleaned over the years help us understand what people from several parts of our cities long to eat, including their favourite restaurants in their neighbourhood. With Access, we are diversifying local palates, bridging geographical gaps in supply and solving for variety, quality and convenience of food, delivered much faster than our standard 35 minutes,” said Sriharsha Majety, CEO, Swiggy.

Restaurant partners will be able to leverage themselves of Swiggy’s customer insights to improve food quality through consistent customer feedback. It will also help them optimise their kitchens for factors such as stock planning, demand forecasting and preparation time.

Suresh Kumar, who has seven Leon Grill restaurants in Bengaluru, said currently 45-55 per cent of his overall sales comes from Swiggy deliveries. “We partnered with Swiggy in 2015 and find it a superior experience as they have their own delivery fleet which is very reliable. Although we have a restaurant in Marathahalli, we wanted to be part of Swiggy Access to enable deliveries in a wider range of neighbourhoods,” he said.

Over the next six months, Swiggy plans to introduce 40 restaurant partners to newer neighbourhoods across the country through Access. The firm operates in eight cities, with 20,000 active restaurant partners, handling 4 million orders a month, delivered by a fleet of 20,000 people.
