In a bid to take on its arch rival Uber in the Australian market, home-grown Ola is strengthening its team in that market with some key hirings.

The Bengaluru-based company has appointed Natasha Daly as its Marketing Director in Australia. She will be reporting to the leadership team both in Australia and India.

With over two decades of experience across marketing and supply chain in companies like Procter & Gamble and Caltex, Daly will lead the marketing and branding exercise for Ola that entered the Australian market early this year in its first international foray.

Given the fact that Uber has been present in that market for about half a decade, Daly has tough days ahead.

Another mobility app, Taxify.com, based out of Estonia, also entered Australia in December last year but Uber has the largest market share so far.

“Ola is entrepreneurial with a great culture, and I look forward to seeing what magic we can create for customers and driver-partners, as we seek to provide the best rideshare experience possible in the country,” Daly said, adding that her role will involve in building a “strong” business and brand across the country as Ola looks to expand into more cities this year.

Ola, which has launched in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne to start with, plans to enter Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra, Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart later this year, the company’s spokesperson told BusinessLine , adding that the expansion of business would also require a strengthening of the leadership team.
