Germany’s TÜV Rheinland is planning to ramp up its headcount in India to 1,000 personnel in the next three years.

The technical service provider, which had started Indian operations in 1996, currently has 400 employees in the country.

“India is and will always remain a target market for us. We have been investing more than Rs 30 crore every year in India in the last few years and it would now look at consolidating its operations,’’ TUV Rheinland Chief Executive Officer Manfred Bayerlein said.

“India is shaping up to be a very important market for us globally. We recently opened a new soft lines testing laboratory in Gurgaon, India. For the 1,500 square metre laboratory, an investment of €1.9 million was made. Another €1.5 million is being invested in two additional soft lines laboratories in Bangalore and Tirupur, India, which are slated for inauguration within the next few months,” Bayerlein added.

As an independent body, TUV Rheinland inspects, tests, certifies products, installations, processes and management systems for international standards.

“We are also looking at inorganic growth in India through acquisitions. However, while we are scouting for opportunities, there are no specific acquisition plans currently,” he said.
