Backed by a robust growth in the country’s two-wheeler market and new launches, TVS Motor Company expects a growth of over 30 per cent in the overall sales volume during 2014-15 over previous year.

With several launches so far during the year and at least two more models in pipeline later this fiscal, the two-wheeler major expects a strong volume growth taking its market share in the scooter segment to 18 per cent from 15 per cent.

Launching TVS Scooty Zest 110 here today, J S Srinivasan, Vice-President, Sales, TVS Motor Company, said: “TVS is currently clocking sales volume of about 60,000 scooters per month accounting for about 15 per cent market share. With the launch of the new scooter, we expect the volumes to go up to 75,000 per month, taking the market share to 18 per cent of the country’s 3.5 lakh per month scooter market.”

“The company scooter range has been positioned to address different segments, such as Jupiter for male personal, TVS Wego as a sleek two-wheeler for husband / wife and the Scooty for young women. Such positioning has helped gain volumes as we offer a bigger range now,” he said.

Referring to the new launches in the pipeline, he said that the company Chairman had announced plans to roll out two more motorcycles during the year. These include a commuter segment bike and another in the performance category, both aimed at widening the range and tapping new buyers.

TVS Motor sold about 17.5 lakh two-wheelers in the domestic market last year and expects this number to head past the 22 lakh mark supported by good volume growth in both motorcycles and scooters.

The country’s two-wheeler market registered a growth of about 12.5 per cent last year. It is likely to grow by about 14 per cent this fiscal, he said.

Within the TVS domestic market sales, scooters and mopeds currently account for about 60,000 units per month, and motorcycles 56,000 units.

The Scooty Zest is priced at Rs 44,800 ex-showroom here.
