VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) has launched a new range of buses under Eicher Skyline Pro Series.

The company, a 50:50 venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Ltd, said that the new buses will meet the demands of the emerging premium market segment by providing enhanced passenger safety and comfort with superior aesthetics.

Shyam Maller, Senior Vice-President, Sales, VECV, said, “The new generation Eicher Skyline Pro Series buses have been developed to improve transportation efficiency and reduce the cost of transportation and aid in increase in productivity.”

Eicher, which is credited with the launch of the ‘First Safe School Bus in India’ in 1996, has now added new features which include retractable seat belts on all the seats for the safety of children.

The company, which commands a market share of 15.7 per cent in the low and mid-sized bus segment, expects to increase it further during the current financial year with the introduction of these two buses and few other models to follow. Last year, it had a market share of 13.5 per cent.

Maller said that the Eicher Skyline Pro Series buses have undergone stringent and gruelling test protocols and lay big thrust on safety and comfort of the passengers.

JNNURM orders

The company is also engaged in discussions with several state transport undertakings.

Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, wherein the state transport undertakings procure buses through tenders, Eicher has managed to bag several big orders and is pitching for few more.

The company is set to add one big order of 560 buses from Bihar and another order of 65 buses from Indore, he said.

With a number of corporate houses expanding their facilities and recruiting in large numbers in major metros and cities, the demand for executive commute buses is set to go up, Maller explained.
