There is a need to integrate education system according to the needs of the industry, said the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, Mr Pankaj Dwivedi.

Expressing concern at the lack of employability skills among the present engineering graduates, he urged the industry to play a proactive role in imparting skills to people. Mr Dwivedi was speaking at the annual day event of CII-AP Chapter.

He released a report on ‘Promoting industry in rural AP' by a CII-Task Force on non-migratory rural employment generation, chaired by Dr Ramachandra N. Galla, Chairman, Amara Raja Group.

Mr T.T. Ashok, Chairman, Southern Region of CII, said demographic dividend will have an adverse affect if people are not trained. Sustainable, inclusive growth is need of the hour to address unemployment.

At the panel discussion, Mr Daggubati Rana, Cine Actor and CEO, Spirit Media, pointed out that there is a lack of organised educational setup in the film industry. “Employment in the film industry is on a decline due to more focus on digital films. However, with more digitalisation, the scope of entering into the film industry has increased multi-fold and we have more and more film makers, he said.

Dr B V R Mohan Reddy, Past Chairman, CII Southern Region and Chairman and Managing Director, Infotech Enterprises Ltd, said that education, infrastructure and governance are the three critical aspects of achieving the employment targets. “IT industry has the potential to employ around 13 lakh people by 2022,” he said.

Dr Ramachandra Galla, Chairman, Amara Raja Group, talking about the manufacturing sector, pointed out that without the manufacturing sector it is not possible to achieve 35 million employment. “Without goods we cannot generate services and hence require manufacturing.”

Mr S Shivakumar, CEO, ITC- IBD (Agri Division), representing agriculture and agri business, talked about three action points for enhancing employment in the agri and agri business sector – crop management services, post-harvest management services and risk management services.

Prof. Ajit Rangnekar, Dean – Indian School of Business, chaired the Panel Discussion, and pointed out that Andhra Pradesh has the hard infrastructure with maximum number of educational institutions but lags behind in the soft infrastructure, in terms of education and skilling.
