The comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) between Canada and India is expected to be signed by the end of 2014.

“We are hopeful that the CEPA agreement be concluded by the end of 2014,” Raymond C. Chan, Investment Attraction Manager, India and South Asia, Government of Saskatchewan, told reporters here on Thursday.

He was attending an interactive session on business opportunities in food processing sector between India and Canada organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce.

According to him, once the CEPA agreement is signed, India’s trade with Saskatchewan, a province in the western Canada, is also expected to grow substantially.

“After the agreement, the investment projections are expected to go up,” Chan said.

Signing of the CEPA agreement is projected to play a key role in achieving the two-way trade target of $15 billion by 2015.

Chan added that coordinators of both the countries discussed the issue at the Canada-India business forum in Mumbai on November 29 and there were “positive outcomes”.

Meanwhile, he said Indian companies have huge scope for investment in food processing industries.
