Inadequate electricity supply in the national capital region is expected to reduce production from industrial zones by about 35-40 per cent, Assocham said today.

In Gurgaon, demand for power from industrial zones is around 1,200-1,400 MW against the availability of 900-1,000 MW, the chamber said.

Similarly in Faridabad, the demand, particularly in industrial locations, is around 600-700 MW against the availability of around 300-400 MW, it said, adding that units are facing daily power cuts of 5-8 hours.

“Power shortages may reduce industrial production in the NCR by nearly 35-40 per cent,” it said.

Non-availability of power has upset the production schedules in Faridabad and if the power scenario remains unchanged, the resultant loss in industrial production could surpass 35-40 per cent, it said.

The power shortage in Noida is severe as well. As per estimates, a power shortage of about 100-200 MW is experienced every day in the entire Noida region.

The chamber also said that the worst-affected are medium and small units.
