Coffee exports down 8.54% in crop year 2011-12 bl-premium-article-image

Indian coffee exports in the crop year (October–September) 2011-12 are down 8.54 per cent at 3.21 lakh tonnes as compared with the previous year’s (2010-11) exports of 3.51 lakh tonnes.

According to Coffee Board statistics, at the end of September 28, the unit value realisation of Indian coffee was up 12.03 per cent at Rs 1.49 lakh per tonne as against last year’s realisation of Rs 1.33 lakh per tonne.

Coffee exports in rupee terms is marginally up 2.12 per cent at Rs 4,800 crore as against Rs 4,700 crore in 2010-11. However, in terms of dollar realisation, it is down 7.10 per cent at $955 million as against $1,028 million.

Coffee grades: Exports of arabica parchment constituted 40,023 tonnes (last year’s exports stood at 38690 tonnes), arabica cherry 11,357 tonnes (9,771 tonnes), robusta parchment 21,575 tonnes (25,727 tonnes), robusta cherry 1,21,223 tonnes (1,38,799 tonnes) and instant coffee total exports 70,226 (72,914 tonnes).

The top five Indian coffee importing countries are: Italy 69,334.5 tonnes (arabica 15,413.1 tonnes, robusta 53,921.4 tonnes), the Russian Federation 23,863.5 tonnes (arabica 883.1 tonnes, robusta 22,980.4 tonnes), Germany 23,176.2 tonnes (arabica 7,246.1 tonnes, robusta 15,930.1 tonnes), Belgium 17,132.1 tonnes (Arabica 8,100.7 tonnes, robusta 9,031.4 tonnes), Slovenia 12,484.7 tonnes (arabica 96 tonnes, robusta 12,388.7 tonnes).

The top five exporters from India are: Allanasons 26,424.4 tonnes (arabica 9,197.1 tonnes, robusta 17,227.3 tonnes), NKG Jayanti Coffee 25,934.6 tonnes (arabica 7,908.5 tonnes, robusta 18,026.1 tonnes), CCL Products-India only robusta 22,514.4 tonnes, Amalgamated Bean Coffee Ltd 18,932.1 tonnes (arabica 7,561.8 tonnes, robusta 11,370.3 tonnes) and Tata Coffee 16,882.8 tonnes (arabica 938.7 tonnes, robusta 15,944.1 tonnes).
