Price decline continue to witness Kochi Tea auction especially for dust grades with prices of several varieties quoting lower.

Despite good arrivals, CTC dust opened ₹2 to ₹5 lower. As the sale progressed, it declined with longer margins of ₹5 to ₹10 and sometimes more especially high priced teas towards the close of the sale.

However, decline in prices was less for plainer varieties. In sale no 2, the quantity on offer in CTC grades was 10,86,500 kg.

The auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said that upcountry buyers lent fair support, while exporters operated mainly on medium and plainer variety, absorbing a small quantity.

The demand was less for Orthodox varieties with low arrivals at 9,500 kg on offer. The market was lower and witnessed heavy withdrawals. A small quantity of Orthodox dust sold was absorbed by exporters.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹91-145, medium grades fetched ₹66-112, while plain stood at ₹54-65.

The arrival was low in leaf varieties with quantity on offer in Orthodox grades was 150,000 kg. With good demand, the market for Select Best Nilgiri Brokens, Whole Leaf and Fannings steady to sometimes dearer. Others were irregular and lower.

In CTC leaf, Good Liquoring Brokens and Fannings were steady to firm. Export demand was subdued and the quantity on offer was 98,500 kg.

In the dust category, Manjolai SFD quoted the best prices of ₹161 followed by Mayura SFD at ₹148.

In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP-S (Green tea) fetched the best prices of ₹327 followed by Chamraj FOP & OP at ₹326.
