Declining trend witnesses at Kochi tea auction bl-premium-article-image

A declining price trend witnessed for several tea varieties at Kochi Tea auction this week. The quantity on offer in CTC dust grades was 10,23,000 kg.

The market was barely steady and irregularly easier. The price decline was more as the sale progressed. It dropped further towards the close, especially the high priced teas. There was a subdued upcountry demand and exporters confined to medium and plainer varieties.

The quantity on offer in Orthodox grades was 16,000 kg. The market for primary dust remained steady, while others were irregular and lower with some withdrawals.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹92-151, medium fetched ₹66-115 and plain grades stood at ₹55-66.

In the leaf category, the quantity on offer in Orthodox grades was 147,000 kg. The market for Nilgiri Brokens, Whole Leaf and Fannings was steady to firm and sometimes dearer following quality. Others were irregular and lower and witnessed some withdrawals.

For CTC varieties, the Select Best Brokens and Fannings barely remained steady. Others were irregular and lower with heavy withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 94,500 kg. There was a subdued demand from exporters and upcountry buyers.

In the dust category, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹152 followed by Waterfall (P) SFD at ₹151. In leaf grades, Chamraj FOP (Green tea) fetched the best prices of ₹336 followed by Chamraj OP at ₹311.
