Amid low arrivals, prices of several tea varieties registered good demand at Kochi auction this week.

The market for select best and popular marks in sale no 49 barely remained steady, while others were irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹5 and sometimes more. The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 8,28,000 kg. Some blenders, including Kerala Civil Supplies Corporation, were active on good liquoring teas, while loose tea traders lent fair support.

The quantity on offer in dust orthodox grades was 8,000 kg and the market for primary grades appreciated in value. There was subdued demand from exporters and upcountry buyers, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹107-156, mediums quoted ₹76-120 and plain grades stood at ₹61-73.

In orthodox leaf, the Nilgiri varieties were firm to dearer following quality. Few whole leaves witnessed some attractive prices. The quantity on offer was 168,500 kg.

However, the market for CTC brokens showed a decline by ₹3 to ₹5 and sometimes more. It also witnessed lot of withdrawals.

Surianalle SFD, Mayura SFD and Watterfall SFD came to the top position in dust grades, quoting ₹156, while in leaf varieties, it was Chamraj FOP-Sup Green Tea, registering ₹321.
