The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) has suggested power holiday (staggered holiday) for a day or two in a week, region-wise in the State, to tide over the precarious power situation. It also wants the government to help commissionthe Koodangulam Nuclear Power Plant at the earliest to augment power supply.

In a representation to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J.Jayalalithaa, the Codissia President, Mr M. Kandhaswami, said the industries in the State have been badly hit by unscheduled power cuts and the micro and small industries were on the edge of closure. This might become severer during the summer.

He said the association had suggested to the TANGEDCO and the TNEB to resort to power holiday in different regions in the State one or two days in a week (on a turn basis) as he did not see any other alternative to overcome the power shortage.

He said for a country that is starved of power, “atomic power is the only solution which is enviro friendly.”

The Codissia President, while lauding the efforts of the Chief Minister to increase the power production in the State, also sought a meeting to explain the issue.
