Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company, will host the 12th International Conference on Mineral Processing Technology at Udaipur between October 20 and 22. The conference will focus on various mineral processing issues and initiatives, besides finding solution in terms of extraction of metals from the mineral resource and also on waste management.

The theme for this year's event is “Recent Advances in Processing of Non-Ferrous and Industrial Minerals”. The three-day conference, which expects over 500 delegates from India and abroad, has already received close to 230 research papers and will have about 200 presentations, said Hindustan Zinc in a press release.

The Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers in association with mineral industry has been organising this event since 2000 at different locations. Being the world's largest integrated zinc producer with over 85 per cent zinc market share in India, Hindustan Zinc has taken the lead this year to host the conference at Udaipur, said the company.

Known for adopting latest technology, Hindustan Zinc established a most modern Central Research & Development Laboratory (CRDL) in 1976 with an objective to enhance metal recoveries, to recover values from the waste and optimise waste management. The CRDL has developed various processes that includes process to recover lead and silver from low grade lead concentrate and hot gas precipitator dust.

Hindustan Zinc's CRDL has been recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and it is listed in American Society for Testing and Materials online directory for testing laboratories.
