Flood alert at Kochi airport

An emergency cell has been constituted at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery to ensure that operations are not affected in case there is flooding if the shutters of the Idukki dam are opened.

Pumps, generators and sand bags have been procured to divert and drain water in case there is water-logging. All canals have been checked and new temporary canals have been dug. Consultations are also being held with dam safety officials.

Following heavy rains during the southwest monsoon, the taxiway had got flooded leading to cancellation of several flights some time back. Steps are being taken to avoid such a situation.
