A new service called the forecasting along the ship routes, which will benefit navigation users will launched by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) here.

In addition, the Hyderabad-based institute will release the Atlas on “Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI)” and a DVD on “Argo Data Products Ver 2.1”. These products will be released during the second user interaction workshop on May 10 .

INCOIS, which has become known for its Tsunami warning centre provides a range of information from Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) advisories, ocean state forecasts (waves, currents, sea surface temperature, etc.) for the benefit of fishing community, and other stake holders of oceans.

Ocean state forecasts are generated on a daily basis at three-six hour intervals on all days and provided to fishermen, shipping industry, Navy, Coast Guard and ONGC.

The user community consists of fishermen, Navy, ONGC, shipping, researchers, students, etc. More than 175 users representing various user communities attended the first workshop in 2011. The second workshop will be held on Thursday.

The feedback from users on existing services and their additional requirements, if any, are expected to help the institute further improve and develop new services and data products, a release said.
