The Railway Industry Association of the UK is looking at working with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The UK team was on a visit to India to explore business opportunities. Their schedule includes visits to Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
“With the metro and monorail network being established in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, we see a lot of potential as far as UK's railway industry is concerned. The suburban railway network in Mumbai too is being updated with a view to reduce congestion and we are focusing on the possible commercial opportunities. The presentation made by MMRDA was quite educative for us,” said Mr Jitendra Jain, Senior Trade and Investment Advisor, from the office of the British Deputy High Commissioner.
Mr Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said, “If we are developing newer and modern transport modes, we also will have to look for better-equipped and latest technology.”
Faster mode of travel is a necessity for every Mumbaikar. However, while providing such services, it must be ensured that the transport modes are run efficiently and are safe and secure. MMRDA will certainly explore all contemporary technology while establishing the metro and monorail networks, he said.
The team of UK's Railway Industry Association is banking on their multi-tasking skills while developing UK's heavy rail network and its experience of contributing to UK's biggest metro rail operation.
The team consists of representatives of businesses involved in rail-related technical fields such as designing and constructing infrastructure and integrating the same with power supplies, cable production and management products.
The expertise also includes automatic fire suppression systems, freight management services, scheduling system operators for all types of rail based services, engineering and technology consultancy firms and energy absorption systems, besides legal services and technical education for infrastructure projects.
