The temporary closure of Jet Airways will lead to an increase in airfares in the short-term as the market will take time to cater to the demand from travellers during the summer vacations.

Indiver Rastogi, President & Country Head, Corporate Travel-Thomas Cook (India) Ltd, said,

“We have been witnessing a significant 25 per cent growth of travellers from metros and strongly emerging regional markets. Jet’s network offered significant customer benefit — direct non-stop to short hauls such as Abu Dhabi-Dubai and Singapore; a viable hub-and-spoke model to mid-hauls in Asia (Bali, Japan-Korea) and long hauls such as Australia-New Zealand and Europe-USA,” he added.

Balu Ramachandran, Head-Air & Distribution, Cleartrip, said April is already seeing the airfares on the higher side.

“For the first half of April, fares have been higher by 15 per cent when compared to the same time last year. For last minute bookings, fares are higher by 18 per cent year-on-year on an average.”
