Concerned with mounting losses in five State transport corporations, the West Bengal Government is looking at generating revenue in all these ailing units to make them self-reliant and economically vibrant.
“I have never said to discontinue subsidy entirely, but time has come to reduce it step by step and make the ailing corporations financially sound to cope with the situations,” State's Transport Minister, Mr Madan Mitra, said here.
“The Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee will convene a meeting on the issue on January 27 to be attended by the five ailing corporations, department officials, trade union bodies and the Transport Minister himself,” Mr Mitra said.
Sources explained that target of this meeting would be to find an amicable solution for a turnaround of the ailing corporations.
