SpiceJet Ltd, Kalanithi Maran and another top company official have been summoned as accused by a Delhi court in two tax evasion cases for their alleged failure to deposit over ₹147 crore TDS with the Income Tax (I-T) Department.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pritam Singh issued summons to Maran, the company and its Managing Director S Natrajhen after taking cognizance on two complaints filed against them by the I-T Department. The court directed them to appear before it August 21.
SpiceJet reacts A spokesman of the airline said that as per SpiceJet’s legal department the tax deducted at source has been paid. The airline added that they had not received any summons. The airline expressed the opinion that post ownership change it creates no legal binding on new owner. It was in January this year that the Marans transferred their entire stake in the airline to Ajay Singh the current promoter of the airline.
