Dhamra port completes 1 year of commercial operation

Dhamra port, a deep draft private port built jointly by Tata Steel and Larsen & Toubro on the Odisha coast, completed one year of commercial operation on Sunday. During the past one year, the port handled around six million tonnes of cargo, mostly import such as coal and limestone. A small quantity of iron ore, close to a lakh tonne in two shipments, was also exported through the port, according to a release by the port.

Till March 31, the throughput was around five million tonnes.

During the past one year, the port handled more than 90 vessels, including several Capesize, of the capacity of more than 150,000 dwt each.

On Sunday, the port observed ‘Productivity Day' by holding a workshop on internal process development and productivity for port employees and training for drivers and crew of fishing trawlers operating out of the fishing jetty near the port.

Several employees received awards for their performance. Mr Santosh K Mohapatra, CEO of the Dhamra Port Company Ltd, distributed the awards, the release added.
