Eastern Railway is looking forward to generate more revenue from freight movement after rationalisation of rates, commodity classification and distance slabs.
About 65 per cent of freight revenue comes from coal movement. The 65 million tonnes of freight traffic movement in 2014-15 saw a revenue growth of 18 per cent. “A combination increase in freight traffic and rates is expected to increase revenue further in 2015-16,” said R K Gupta, General Manager of Eastern Railway at a press conference here on Thursday.
Like in Jharkhand, Eastern Railway would be ready for joint venture proposals for gauge conversion or new lines.
He said 26 railway stations in the State would have WiFi connections. “Currently, we working to install such facility at Howrah and Sealdah stations in city”, he added.
