Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) had suffered huge damage on Sunday as cyclone Hudhud ravaged the city, and the employees' residential colony in the vicinity of the shipyard also bore the brunt.
HSL authorities said here on Tuesday that the loss to the shipyard was still being enumerated.
"Most of the high-rise roofs of the workshops, dry dock, hull shop and pre-fabrication shops in the shipyard were blown off and the equipment was badly damaged. Many vehicles were damaged in the shipyard and the situation was similar in the HSL employees' colony in the vicinity," said a HSL press release on Tuesday.
The authorities said all efforts were being made to bring back normalcy at the shipyard and the colony as quickly as possible and to mitigate the sufferings of the employees in the colony. There was, however, no loss of life in HSL and the employees' residential colony.
Production, cargo handling
HPCL's Visakha refinery also stopped production and the cargo handling at both the ports - Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram - almost came to a halt for the past two days.
The Visakhapatnam steel plant also suffered badly but there is yet no official communique on the extent of production loss or other losses. Disruption in power supply affected the production badly, even though the plant has captive power facility.
The Simhadri thermal power plant of NTPC, with 2,000-MW capacity, had also stopped power generation from Sunday. Small-scale units in Visakhapatnam and the neighbouring districts were in a similar plight.
