Inspects facilities for possibilities of cooperation

A high-level delegation from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd on Monday and Tuesday inspected facilities at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited to explore the possibilities of cooperation.

The team comprised of six members under the leadership of Hyundai Senior Executive Vice-President-Engine and Machinery and COO Jeong-Hwan Kim. It visited the dry dock, submarine repair yard and other facilities.

HSL Chairman and Managing Director Rear-Admiral (retd) N.K. Mishra gave a presentation on the shipyard’s activity and its plans.

The team’s visit assumes importance as the HSL early this year signed a MoU with Hyundai for cooperation in construction of submarines.

Joint Secretary (Naval Systems), Ministry of Defence, Bharat Harbanslal Khera also arrived here on Tuesday to meet the Korean team. The official briefed the team on India’s plans to increase warships and indigenous construction of six next generation submarines at a cost of Rs 60,000 crore.
