“SpiceJet has requested for relief. We will discuss within the Ministry and put before seniors in the Government. This will be done in the wider interest of the passengers. No commitment or assurance has been given to SpiceJet,” Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, said.

This comes on a day that S L Narayanan and Sanjiv Kapoor met senior officials of the civil aviation ministry including Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, secretary and other senior officials.

Sources maintained that the Oil Ministry, Ministry of Finance, and other departments of the Government will have to be consulted before any concession, if at all, is provided to the airline.

The airline requires about Rs 1,400 crore immediately and another Rs 600 crore in the long run.
