The Unique Identification Authority of India has extended the deadline for direct cash transfer of LPG subsidy from June 1, 2013 to August 31, 2013 to certain districts in Andhra Pradesh.

According to a statement from the authority, this grace period has been extended to accommodate LPG consumers who have not yet linked their Aadhaar number to the bank accounts. Such consumers will continue to get the subsidised cylinder during the grace period.

Thereafter, subsidy amount will be credited to their Aadhaar linked account.

The Union Government had announced the launch of the direct transfer of LPG subsidy from June 1, 2013 directly into the Aadhaar enabled bank accounts of the LPG consumers. This comes under the direct benefit transfer scheme in the Phase I. Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Chittoor, Ananthapur and East Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh are covered under this phase.

Consumers who have linked their bank accounts to the card will receive their LPG subsidy directly into their latest bank account linked with the card number. They will get subsidy within 3-4 days.

After the grace period is over, the consumers will have to purchase the LPG cylinder at the prevailing market price. Both the processes will continue in tandem for three months only in these districts.

Consumers have been asked to check their Aadhaar status on the Authority web portal and through Mee Seva centres, if their number is generated.
