Oilmeal exports up 21% in November

The country’s oilmeal exports rose by 21 per cent last month at 6.41 lakh tonnes, according to industry data released today.

India had exported 5.30 lakh tonnes of oilmeal, which is used mainly as animal feed, in November 2011.

However, the total exports of oilmeals during April-November 2012 declined by 21 per cent to 23,66,269 tonnes as compared to 29,81,955 tonnes in the year-ago period, according to Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEAI) data.

South Korea and Iran emerged as major export destinations for Indian oilmeal during the first eight months of this fiscal, but export to Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia fell during this period.

Exports to Iran jumped by more than two-fold to 4,61,687 tonnes during April-November 2012 against 1,75,962 tonnes in the same period of last fiscal.

The shipments to South Korea also rose by 33 per cent to 5,78,431 tonnes.
