Congress high command studying Telangana issue: Minister

The Union Minister of State for HRD, Ms D. Purandeswari, said here on Friday that the Congress High Command was studying the Telangana question in depth and at an appropriate time the decision would be announced and it should be final and binding on all.

She said in an interview here on Friday that leaders from all regions of the State had expressed their views on the subject and the High Command had taken cognisance of them all.

“I have also conveyed the feelings and sentiments of the area that I represent in the Lok Sabha, the Visakhapatnam constituency in particular, and the north-coastal districts in general.

“It is for the High Command to take a decision. Highly experienced and seasoned leaders in the core committee are considering the matter and I am confident they will take a suitable decision taking into account all aspects.

“The decision they finally arrive at should be accepted by all,” she said.

Railway zone

On the demand for a separate railway zone for Visakhapatnam, she said carving out a separate Vizag zone would be difficult, but she would make efforts to get the Waltair division merged in the South Central Railway with its headquarters in Secunderabad.
