Bengal foundry industry members going to China

Members of the foundry industry of West Bengal plan to initiate an industry visit to China for collaboration, purchase of latest machinery and technology development in the industry.

Initiated under the leadership of Mr Raj Kejriwal, Managing Director, Kiswok Industries, a group of 21 foundry members across 13 foundries will undertake a tour of the Chinese foundries.

Spread over ten days the trip will commence on May 8, said a press statement. The group will explore the possibilities of tie-ups, collaboration and purchase of latest machinery required for the industry.

There are close to 320 metal casting units in Howrah and Kolkata and most of them belong to the small and medium-scale enterprises.

These units have an installed capacity of about 6.8 lakh tonnes and are widely used for sanitary fittings, railway components, mechanical and electrical components, pumps and valves.

Apart from catering to the domestic markets, the castings are also exported to overseas markets such as the US, Germany, the UK and West Asia.
