Bids invited for TN health insurance scheme

The tender for choosing the insurance company to implement the Chief Ministers' Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in Tamil Nadu has been announced. The last date for submission is August 22.

The bidder must be an insurance company that is authorised to conduct health insurance by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA). The bidders should have been licensed for heath insurance at least for one year as on the last date for submission of bid and should have, at any one point of time in the last three years, reckoned from the last date for bid submission, live health insurance policies covering at least 2.5 lakhs families/individual policies in aggregate, says the government tender notice.

The coverage will be up to Rs 1 lakh per family per year with provision to pay up to Rs 1.5 lakh per year per family for certain specified procedures. The Project Director, Tamil Nadu Health Systems Society, will pay the insurance premium on behalf of the eligible persons to the successful bidder. The premium will be paid every year in four quarterly instalments.

The agreement will be for a period of four years from the date of commencement of the Scheme, subject to annual renewal and extendable by one more year beyond four years on mutual consent.

A pre-bid meeting of prospective bidders will be held on August 8 at 11 a.m. at the Secretariat, Fort St George, Chennai, to clarify queries.
