Meghalaya Plan outlay at Rs 2,727cr

The Annual Plan for Meghalaya for 2011-12 was finalised at Rs 2,727 crore on Tuesday, after a meeting between Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mr Mukul Sangma.

Mr Ahluwalia appreciated the State's achievements in health and education sectors. He stressed on the need to upscale growth in horticulture and floriculture to improve revenue resources.

Mr Sangma said he would continue to focus on poverty eradication. The Plan would target generating additional work opportunities for 1.5 lakh people. “Generation of employment in rural areas would be top priority,” he added.
