The Centre is modernising employment exchanges through the National Career Service, Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya said here today.

As per the scheme, those registered with the exchanges would get SMS alerts on jobs available and the job-seekers do not have to go the exchanges, said Dattatreya, who holds independent charge of the Labour Ministry, said.

“If a worker is registered with employment exchange, your cell phone number would be there. What we do is, after registration, you will get information on where jobs are available, electrician, welder, fitter, all these jobs. You are asked to attend the interviews. We are modernising employment exchanges through the National Career Service,” he said, addressing a May Day event.

The modernisation of employment exchanges is going to cost the Government ₹400 crore. Noting that the Modi-led Government is taking a number of initiatives for the benefit of workmen, he said one crore jobs would be created in the next two years.

The Centre is implementing ‘Make in India’, ‘Digital India’ and ‘Skill India’ initiatives that would herald great changes, he said.

He urged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was also present on the occasion, to set up skill development centres for the benefit of workers in the unorganised sector.

The Centre is implementing a ‘smart card’ initiative for the social security of 39 crore workers in the unorganised sector, he said.
