Demands resignations of MLAs involved in CBI assets probe

The Kiran Kumar Reddy Government was cornered on Tuesday by the Opposition who demanded dismissal of six “tainted ministers.” The move stalled Assembly proceedings for the day.

The Ministers' decisions taken during the Dr Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure as chief minister are likely to be investigated. These decisions and orders are linked to his son Mr Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy and the disproportionate assets case now being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The Supreme Court had directed issue of notices to these six Ministers and eight top bureaucrats on a petition that sought probe into decisions made by several Ministers and top bureaucrats who were part of the decision-making process in issuing Government Orders. The petitioner had contended that they were not being probed by the apex investigating agency.

The day's proceedings started with the Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, rejecting adjournment motions moved by opposition parties. The TDP demanded the resignation by these ministers and rushed to the podium. The House was adjourned.

The Legislative Affairs Minister, Mr Duddila Sridhar Babu, said that it was not proper for the Opposition to demand resignation or dismissal of the Ministers. “If ministers are forced to resign based on allegations, nobody will be left in the House,” he said.

The opposition has been demanding that the ministers either resign or be sacked and the various Government Orders issued be placed in the House for discussion.
