Our Bureau Updated - October 01, 2013 at 06:24 PM.

Retail inflation for industrial workers eased marginally in August at 10.75 per cent compared with 10.5 per cent in July.

In August, the consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) rose by 2 points at 237.

Year-on-year inflation measured by the CPI-IW stood at 10.75 per cent in August, compared with 10.85 per cent in July and 10.31 per cent in the corresponding month last year, a Labour Bureau release said here on Tuesday.

Similarly, food inflation stood at 13.91 per cent in August, against 14.10 per cent in July and 12.20 per cent during the corresponding month last year.

In August, the largest upward pressure in the consumer price index for industrial workers came from the food group, which contributed 1.58 percentage points to the total change. At item level, rice, wheat, wheat Atta, goat meat, dairy milk, milk (cow & buffalo), onions, chillies, tea (ready-made), firewood, doctors’ fee, private tuition fee, secondary school books, petrol etc pushed up the index.

However, this was compensated to some extent by groundnut oil, fish, fresh vegetables and fruits, which put downward pressure on the index, the Bureau said.

At the central level, Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh saw the highest rise of 8 points each in the index, while Goa reported a decline of 5 points.
