NDA boycott of Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram on the 2G issue, rising prices and demand for separate Telangana today led to a tumultuous start to the Winter session of Parliament.
It was trouble right from the beginning as the Shiv Sena members stormed the well in Lok Sabha displaying placards demanding remunerative prices for cotton farmers in Maharashtra and the Left parties protested price rise.
Soon after the Speaker, Ms Meira Kumar, completed obituary references, the members were on their feet waving placards and shouting slogans on various issues, with the Congress and TRS members raising the Telangana statehood demand and the BSP members seeking ten per cent reservation for Muslims.
As she called the Home Minister to reply to the first question on Naxal issue, BJP members rose in unison to protest against him. BJP-led NDA has been demanding Mr Chidambaram’s resignation alleging his involvement in the 2G scam when he was Finance Minister. The NDA has already announced its decision to boycott him in Parliament.
With the Shiv Sena members storming the well on the cotton growers’ issue, the House witnessed a brief adjournment till noon.
When the House reassembled, it was a similar story with Shiv Sena-BJP, Left and some members from Telangana region trooping into the well.
Amid protests by Left members on price rise, the Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, laid a statement on the price situation.
Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day after paying homage to two sitting members, Silvius Condpan and Ram Dayal Munda, who died during intersession period.
