The Royal Thai Consulate General on Thursday opened its fifth visa application centre in India in Hyderabad.

Mr Chanchai Charanvatnakit, Consul-General of Thailand, Chennai, said the key features of the centre will be longer operating hours, dedicated call centre unit and door delivery of passports. The Hyderabad centre will remain open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

VFS Global, a global outsourced consular services company, will be accepting and processing applications for visas through the centre in Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Charanvatnakit said there has been an increase in the number of Indians visiting Thailand, especially from the South, both for business and tourism.

“Direct flight connectivity between Hyderabad and all major cities in Thailand has contributed to the increase in passenger traffic. Over 45,000 travellers flew from Hyderabad to Bangkok in 2010. Thai Airways now operates to Bangkok four days a week,” he added.
