The IT-SEZ will be operational, in two phases, in 2014-15. “In the first phase, 7,000 seats will be ready with the remaining 9,500 seats being completed in phase-II,” a company spokes person said.

“Of course, all recruitments (in the IT-SEZ) will not be from West Bengal only,” Ajoyendra Mukherjee, Executive Vice-President Global Head – Human Resources, TCS, told reporters to a specific query.

TCS’ IT-SEZ in Bengal, its first in the State, is coming up on 40 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 1,350 crore. The IT major, currently has 10-odd offices in the city, catering to various verticals that include utilities, retail, energy and banking & financial services.

Over the last two fiscals, the company has recruited 9,000 people from Bengal for its global operations.

“We had made 5,000 offers (recruitment) here in Bengal last fiscal (2011-12)… and 4,000 job offers this year,’’ here.

According to Mukherjee, the company had a hiring target of 50,000 during the current fiscal (2012-13). So far, it has already recruited 40,000.

Another 25,000 offers have already been made for campus recruitments of trainees across different engineering colleges of the country.
