Wipro Infotech bags 10-year deal with Manipal Hospitals

Wipro Infotech on Friday said it has bagged a 10-year contract with the Manipal Group Hospitals for providing Hospital Information System (HIS) solution.

The India and Middle East IT Business unit of Wipro Ltd will implement this project that includes migration of patients data stored in older HIS systems into newer systems.

Further, Wipro Infotech will provide immediate access to clinical, administrative and billing data thereby automating Manipal's IT systems. According to Wipro officials, this would improve patient care services of Manipal group of hospitals.

Wipro's engagement with Manipal Hospitals includes integration of HIS with third party software, interfacing with lab equipment and providing IT infrastructure support services on HIS Platform.

Talking to Business Line , Mr Anand Sankaran, Senior Vice-President and Business Head – India and Middle East and Global Business Head - Infrastructure and Services, Wipro, said: “Healthcare is a focus vertical for Wipro worldwide and with our solutions we hope to drive greater operational efficiencies.”

The Manipal Health Enterprises' network of hospitals manages 4,900 beds in 15 hospitals across five states in India. Mr Rajen Padukone, CEO, Manipal Health Enterprises, said: “Given our plans for hospital network and business expansion in the near future, it is essential that we have a robust hospital information system that will help us grow further.”

In April, Wipro Infotech formed a new vertical that will offer technology solutions for the healthcare segment. According to the Springboard Research, healthcare IT spending in India is expected to reach revenues of $609.5 million by 2013.
