An app to keep tabs on fake medicines

Here’s an Android app (application) that lets you check whether a particular medicine is genuine or now.

PharmaSecure, a US-based anti-counterfeiting and mobile health company, has deployed an app on the Google Play (the Android application market place). This app gives the users access to verify the authenticity of medicines in question and also gives access to its mobile health platform called psConnect.

One can use voice-based or web search to get information on the medicines, Kishore Kar, Vice-President - Sales and Marketing, PharmaSecure, said here in a statement.

“We have been working with pharmaceutical firms in the country to offer mobile technology solution for drug authentication. Unique, randomly generated alphanumeric codes are printed on medicine packages along with a designated number,’’ he said.

“Consumers can send the unique code by SMS to 9901099010 to receive an authentication message from the pharmaceutical manufacturer to confirm the authenticity of the drug being purchased,’’ he said.

Already over 250 million pharmaceutical packages have unique PharmaSecure ID codes both for domestic and export markets.
