The information technology industry in Andhra Pradesh has come out with a list of dos-and-don’ts to save power. The ITsAP (Information Technology industry association in the State) is going to promote these best practices that are based on green technologies in the State.

“Responding to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s appeal, we have chalked out some best practices that can be deployed by the IT firms and employees. We will spread the word on this,” V Rajanna, President of ITsAP, has said here in a statement.

These guidelines are categorised into five categories.

The first one is on saving power while using IT servers, systems and monitors.

“We can use virtualisation techniques to reduce burden on the IT infrastructure. We can also introduce thin computing (using a common CPU that can be shared by many users). We can also significant energy by replacing the old monitor with TFT monitors,” he said.

The association also called for deployment of solar energy to reduce the usage of power.

“Use of motion sensors for the lighting system wherever possible will also help,” he said.

It also called for efficiently managing air-conditioning systems by controlling it according to the employee occupancy.
