Kamal Vachani, regional director of the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) of India, has been honoured for his efforts to promote Indo-UAE trade in electronics and information technology at the GITEX 2011 exhibition in Dubai.

The award was handed over by the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Mr M.K. Lokesh, who also lauded the efforts made by Mr Vachani in assisting small and medium companies in both the countries to promote trade and cooperation.

The ESC Executive Director, Mr D.K. Sareen, also appreciated Mr Vachani’s services. He said the council began participating at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), a yearly ICT event, with just 10 companies.

“With the support and efforts of Mr Vachani, the council has 43 companies participating at GITEX 2011, in spite of global recessionary trends,” he said.

Indian ICT exports have grown to $59 billion over the years, representing remarkable growth, Mr Vachani said on the occasion.

He assured that he would continue to work for the promotion of trade and cooperation between the two countries.

Mr Vachani said that India has the biggest representation at GITEX this year and the ESC is committed to taking this further in the coming editions.
