Huawei opens innovation lab in IIIT-Bangalore

Huawei Technologies India, the R&D centre of Huawei, has opened a software defined network innovation lab in International Institute of Information Technology – Bangalore (IIIT-B)

The innovation lab has been funded by Huawei, as a part of its ICT industry ecosystem development initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, and will focus on research activities in software defined networks, company executives said.

Apart from funding, Huawei will also provide periodic guidance and mentoring to the students of IIIT-B on the research topics.

William Zhao, CEO of Huawei Technologies India, said that by setting up the innovation lab, there is an aim to undertake some pioneering research activities in the telecom networking technology area. The students will gain deeper knowledge and understanding of the future-oriented technologies at this, he added.

Equipped with the software defined network stack and related network elements hardware, the innovation lab will provide the students of IIIT-B a platform to learn traditional telecom network solution and understand key challenges in enabling agile services in the networks, learn SDN controllers and re-architect the traditional network, innovate and develop applications such as BoD (Bandwidth on Demand), VPN (Virtual Private Network), IoT network provisioning. IIIT-B is a registered not-for-profit society funded jointly by the Karnataka government and the IT industry.
