The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) will host AppFest 2012 in Hyderabad next month. The three-day event, which will begin on December 13, will discuss all aspects that go into ideation, development and marketing.

“It is almost five years since the concept Apps came into existence. It soon shot into the limelight and turned indispensable with businesses and organisations making apps the first point of reference for their activity,” an IAMAI representative told Business Line .

They helped several thousand entrepreneurs in cities and small towns make money, with mobile platforms such as iOS (Apple Operating system), Android (Google OS), Blackberry and Symbian OS popularising the applications.

“It is estimated apps have generated five lakh jobs new jobs between 2007 and 2012. In India, given the strong base of mobile users, rapidly growing base of Internet users, availability of innovative minds and depth of resource pool, the opportunity can be enormous,” he said.

This, however, calls for creating an ecosystem in order to make it more robust. “AppFest 2012 will be the first step in this regard,” the association said here in a statement.

The AppFest will have three tracks — Talkathon, Hackathon and Challengathon. Developers would be able to share ideas on technology, revenue models and current opportunities with each other.

“It will also provide an opportunity to participants to compete and create on-spot customised solutions for brands present and immediate opportunity to work with them on larger projects,” the association said.
