KPIT has launched an On-Bus Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for bus manufacturers and State Transport Utilities (STU) in India to create better public transport in urban cities.

On-Bus ITS is mandatory for the 10,000 buses and any future buses funded under the JNNURM II programme announced in August. KPIT’s product is the first in the country to be certified by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for meeting the specifications.

Tailored for 24x7 operations in Indian operating conditions, this solution will enable bus transport authorities reduce response time to emergencies and has features such as automatic vehicle location, vehicle health monitoring & diagnostics. These will be managed by the back-end support offered by KPIT at the depot control using cloud technology and remote diagnostics.

The On-Bus ITS will enhance security with passenger information system and security camera network system that includes features like facial recognition. The intuitive HMI (Human Machine Interface) is bus operator friendly and eases route selection task, gives alarms & warnings and has a reverse camera display. The product is also equipped with a panic button for emergency and remote surveillance for enhanced safety and security.

“The key highlight is the robust design of the product and its agile architecture, coupled with sustainable technology that will integrate future application development,” said Anup Sable, Senior Vice President, Automotive & Engineering, KPIT.
