In order to strive and develop the right talent to drive growth, information technology (IT) industry body Nasscom’s Sector Skill Council (Nasscom-SSC) on Wednesday launched an occupational analysis report for the IT-business process management (BPM) sector.
The objective of the report is to describe the main features and characteristics of an occupation within the IT-BPM industry, specifically the BPM sub-sector.
It said an analysis exercise was conducted across sectors, which has helped develop occupational standards for entry level job roles. For the first stage, four sub-sectors were included in the analysis, including IT services, BPM, engineering and R&D, and software products.
Accordingly, 67 unique entry level job roles have been identified in the purview such as in application development, data scientists, analytics, customer relationship management, finance and accounting, and human resource outsourcing.
“The occupational analysis reports will encompass aspects of talent acquisition and transformation that will be positively impacted by standardisation and globalisation. The reports provide easily accessible standards and helps individuals and firms understand the requirements of a particular occupation,” Som Mittal, President, Nasscom, told reporters here.
He said various companies from the industry and academia are part of the programme, including IIT-Madras and ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu.
Strategic review
As per Nasscom’s Strategic Review 2013, the IT-BPM industry aggregated revenue exceeding $110 billion and employed more than three million people.
The Government has set a target of skilling 500 million people by 2022 and to be able to deliver this target, a structured approach involving all stakeholders is imperative, Mittal added.
