NIIT Technologies Ltd said Thursday that the “Intranet Prahari Project” and the data centres built by the company for Border Security Force have become operational. BSF Jawans posted in 237 locations will now be able to access their personal data from wherever they are posted. Under this Project, network connectivity has been extended up to Battalion level and NIIT has also set up a data centre and disaster recovery centres in different seismic zones.

“Besides this, ten mini data centres have been established…We have also set up an entire tech infrastructure that entails servers, printers, desktops, routers and switches amongst others. The project is essentially an enterprise resource planning solution wherein all major processes such as finance, inventory management, operations and personnel information have been automated and integrated,” Mr Arvind Mehrotra, President Asia Pacific, NIIT Technologies said.

The system will facilitate operational analysis as well as planning in the domain of procurement, finance and manpower management with an aim to speed up decision making and reduce paper work. Alongside, IT training has been imparted to about 150 officers and subordinates officers as part of the project. Around 20,000 personnel were given training on the fundamentals of computers and on the software application developed under the project. NIIT had bagged this Rs 229-crore project last year, with payments linked to milestones. Besides the commissioning, the 7-year project also entails a warranty and maintenance phase.
