Online shopping search trends are changing every season: Junglee report

Junglee.com, a comparison and price check site owned by online marketplace Amazon.in, has said in a report that shopping has become seasonal.

The report unveiled by the search site for the first time has analysed that consumer online shopping search trends are changing every season.

The report, which analysed the search trends during summer this year, said that home appliances like refrigerators, ACs and coolers, sun block creams and weight loss products witnessed the highest increase in searches between the summer months of April, May and June as compared to the previous quarter.

Other categories that saw a significant upward push on searches were sports & fitness, clothing and accessories as well as children’s books.

Mahendra Nerurkar, General Manager, Junglee.com, said, “The report clearly points to the growing trend of seasonal shopping patterns across India. While in some categories like home appliances, we observe a natural push for cooling products/appliances, the spike in some others like weight loss products seems to be more an outcome of holiday-related activities like travel, social gatherings, marriages, etc.”

Refrigerators, air coolers

Search for air coolers went up by 40 times during April to June compared with January to March period. The most searched brand in air coolers were Symphony, Bajaj and Crompton Greaves, according to the Junglee report.

Demand for refrigerators went up to 32 per cent during April-June quarter compared to just 12 per cent last quarter. In the refrigerator category, single door lead the way by three times as they are less expensive compared to double-door and side-by-side refrigerators.

As per the report, prices seemed to play an important role while choosing for products.

Search for ACs increased to 12 per cent from 4 per cent, with split ACs being the most popular and witnessing a five-fold increase in searches, while the searches for window and portable ACs doubled. The top three brands in split ACs were LG, Samsung & Haier, respectively.

Skincare, weight loss products

The report also analysed that awareness on skincare was highest during this period that witnessed an uptrend in searches for skincare products between April-June by 25 per cent.

There was also a whopping 200 per cent jump in the demand for weight loss products. Sports supplements too increased in demand by 30 per cent. Travel to holiday destinations and leisure time with family and friends can be cited as reasons for demand for these products.

Men’s deodorants witnessed 40 per cent increase in demand. Outdoor and adventure activities were clearly popular during the summer holidays, as the demand for trekking & hiking shoes jumped by 50 per cent between April and June.
