Spectrum auction: Govt gets ₹1.09-lakh cr on 18th day

The telecom spectrum auction bidding went up to ₹1.09 lakh crore on Tuesday after registering a drop the previous day by closing at ₹1.05 lakh crore from the day earlier.

The auction that started on March 4 has reached 110 rounds of bidding till now, with six rounds of bidding taking place on Tuesday.

The auction of spectrum in 2100 MHz, 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands are taking place with 100 per cent activity, the Department of Telecom (DoT) said.

‘Robust bidding’
“There is robust bidding going on in 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands. At the end of 110th round, about 89 per cent of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders,” it said.

The competitive bidding is expected to continue. There is still spectrum, which is yet to be sold and the auction will continue on Wednesday, DoT added.

In the 800 MHz, telecom players have started bidding for Uttar Pradesh (West) circle, which was lying idle since the beginning of the auctions. The intensity was most in the Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and North East circles.

In the 900 MHz, the intensity was seen most in Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, North East, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh (both East and West).

In the 1800 MHz, the intensity was most for Kolkata circle.

However, there is still no bidding for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu circles for the 800 MHz.

Similarly, there is no bidding taken place in Bihar circle in the 1800 MHz.

In the 2100 MHz, no bidding continues in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Mumbai circles, from any of the telecom players.
