Telangana Govt plans to set up T-Works by year-end

After setting up T-Hub, a start-up incubator for software and services start-ups, the Telangana Government is teaming up with semiconductor and other electronic firms to establish T-Works, a start-up hub for e-hardware start-ups.

It is also setting up an academy exclusively to train human resources in VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration), which plays a crucial role in chip designing.

“The two initiatives play a crucial role in building an ecosystem for product start-ups and electronic manufacturing industry,” Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said.

The T-Works will be set up with the help of iHub of Los Angeles (the US). “We have visited their facility in our recent trip there. They agreed to help us in setting up the facility here,” he said.

Instead of buying costly equipment for the hub, T-Works would have tie-ups with relevant companies to source the equipment. “We can charge rentals from those using the equipment,” he said.

The Government would use Rs 5 crore from the budgetary allocation to start the hub. “We hope to set it up by the end of the year,” he said.

VLSI Academy

The semiconductor industry in Hyderabad is teaming up with the State Government to set up the VLSI Academy. “The first phase of the academy will start functioning in a couple of months. It will have a Chief Executive Officer to lead the initiative. The industry will offer mentorship to students at the academy,” Dasaradha Gude, CEO of INVECAS, said.

“This will go a long way in developing qualified human resources for the semiconductor industry,” he said.
